Garchomp --Rainy Day Review-- 445

One of the most feared Pokemon of all time, Garchomp is king on Sand teams. However, in past reviews, Pokemon who were great on a different type of weather don't perform well in Rain. Let's see if this holds true with Garchomp.

Scarf Sweeper

Garchomp (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 248 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Tail
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Specs Sweeper

Garchomp (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Don't use this set. Trust me, physical is better in every way (except in terms of Special attacking, but that was a given.)

Garchomp might be strong with Sand, but it is outclassed by other Dragons in Rain. Loss of Sand Veil is a problem, and since using Rough Skin requires not using Aqua Tail on the physical and Earth Power on the Special, Sand Veil is really the only ability Garchomp can use. Also, those Steel types that Garchomp previously attacked with Fire Fang or Fire Blast now have that Rain protection, making them that much harder to take down. Also, Aqua Jet now does more damage. However, Garchomp is still an incredibly powerful Pokemon, 394 Attack and 302 Speed+Scarf with STAB Earthquake and Outrage is incredibly powerful in or out of Rain.

4.5/10

Although both of those sets are good ( Umm, the first one mainly XD ) this is another amazing rain set I feel the need to mention.

Garchomp (M) @ Leftovers / Chesto Berry

Trait: Sand Veil

EVs: 176 HP / 92 Atk / 80 Def / 160 SDef

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Aqua Tail
- Hone Claws
- Dual Chop / Dragon Rush
- Earthquake / Rest

Garchomp's tank set.
The ev's give him 401 Hp, and decent defenses, his speed is still faster than your average tank, so he's a tank, and a tank killer.
Hone Claws improves the accuracy for Aqua Tail and Dual Chop / Dragon Rush.
Aqua Tail is rain boosted, beast power coverage. Dual Chop is sub breaking, with equal power to dragon claw and thanks to Hone Claws equal accuracy as well. Dragon Rush is for the extra power and accuracy abuse.
Earthquake is STAB and if you go Lefties, Rest is for the Chesto Berry combo, because he doesn't have any other way to recover.
