Chandelure --Rainy Day Member Review-- 609

It's a Fire type, which I guess means that it sucks on a Rain team. Or does it? Read on faithful reader, read on.

Special:

Chandelure (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 8 HP / 252 SAtk / 248 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Water]
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball

Okay, this is the standard set that people using Chandelure would use. Standard Chandelure, with HP Water used over HP Ground/Fighting. Loss of STAB boost from Fire Blast, making it coverage against Ferrothorn and friends (who see plenty of use on any team.)

Politoed Support:

Chandelure (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 60 HP / 196 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Water]

I actually am quite fond of this set. Politoed can use Perish Song. However, I never find the move all too useful on its own. But when the foe is trapped in by Chandelure, you'll be taking them down. Shadow Ball provides STAb and HP Water is boosted by the Rain. Protect and Substitute stall out Perish Song. A bit gimmicky, but it can be really helpful in taking down big guys like Dragonite and Blissey.

Chandelure has incredible Special Attack, but loses Fire STAB and gains even more weakness to Water. However, it teams up well with Politoed and can help with Bug/Steel types and Ferrothorn. Plus, it works well when against a Sun team (and Hail, but that is not as common as Sun).

Ratin for the Rain: 4/10
