Torkoal -- Rainy day Review -- 324

A Fire type? In the rain? Well, they still play an excellent role, because Ferrothorn, Scizor, Forretress, and another others with that annoying Steel/Bug typing can kill everything in the rain. This guy can run a role to counter that.

Special:

Torkoal (M) @ Fire Gem / Leftovers

Trait: White Smoke

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Water]
- Stealth Rock
- Overheat / Rapid Spin / Clear Smog

Well, Fire Gem is for if you go with Overheat, Leftovers for the other choices.
Fire Gem makes up for the rain reduction from your power, so you're hitting at full power, anything with that 4X weakness is dead meat. If you go with Rapid Spin or Clear Smog you can Set up your Rocks, and Spin away any Rocks/Spikes your opponent set up, or clear out any stat boosters they've been using. HP Water gets that beastily boost, and Earth Power gets great coverage.

Physical:

Torkoal (M) @ Earth Plate / Leftovers

Trait: White Smoke

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Yawn
- Rapid Spin

Earth Plate can power your only attacking move by a nice 20% without taking any health away period.
Earthquake gets that monster coverage. While Stealth Rock is nice for hazards agaisn't an opponent. You get Yawn in his movepool, so you can force a switch, or force a sleep. And Rapid Spin remains there to clear out hazards set to take you down.

Overall, he actually makes nice utilities in the rain, surprisingly well. But overall, he can't play a sufficient role in the rain, without the fact that he can be completely swept by anything packing a water move.

Rating in the rain - 4.5/10
